Olivier Bernstein is a relative newcomer to Burgundy, but he has quickly made his mark. The négociant produced his first vintage in 2007, which won critical acclaim from wine writers such as Jancis Robinson and Allen Meadows. Described as ‘an iron fist in a velvet glove’, Olivier’s Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze comes from vines that are over 60 years old. Bold and dense, it`s a serious, age-worthy wine with lavish red and black fruits, stylish wood, tangy acidity and remarkable palate length.

100% new oak. Barrel sample – already racked from barrel to barrel. Subdued on the nose only hinting at fresh black fruit and a light smoky oak note. A nice dustiness too. All savoury and dark as it opens. Dark-hearted on the palate, black fruit and rocky mineral thread through the middle. Elegantly scented on the mid palate and then tightening up on the finish to chalky dry texture and freshness. A long way to go for the tannins to set the fruit free.
