Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 2002 from Domaine Bruno Clair is a Grand Cru red Burgundy sourced from the domaine’s substantial holdings in this historic vineyard. The 2002 vintage is widely regarded as a classic year for red Burgundy, offering a harmonious blend of fruit purity and structural longevity. This wine was crafted with approximately 40% whole clusters and aged in 40% new French oak, resulting in a profile of incredible depth and aromatic complexity. It reveals notes of black cherries, violets and exotic spices, underpinned by the firm, mineral-driven tannins characteristic of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Medium bright red. Cool aromas of black fruits, red licorice and bitter chocolate. Very suave on entry, then quite closed in the middle palate; sweet, delicate and perfumed but very young today and in need of eight to ten years of aging. The ripely tannic finishing flavors build slowly and linger long. Offers considerable potential, but will it equal the Clos Saint-Jacques?Stephen Tanzer1st March 2005

Heady scent. Cracking fruit. Lots of fruit and excitement. It would be churlish to criticize anything about this wine, except the price. (JR)
