Clos de Bèze was originally planted by the monks of the Abbey of Bèze in 630, and Domaine Armand Rousseau’s grapes are sourced from both Petit Clos de Bèze and the upper parcels of Clos de Bèze. The 2017 vintage reveals brambly dark fruit, Earl Grey and a hint of chestnut. The palate shows some of the oak at the moment, although there is immense substance, with an almost candied, savoury finish.

The 2017 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has quite a high-toned bouquet, a touch of boot polish coming through and then receding to reveal very complex floral aromas. The elegant palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, perfect acidity and fine proportion. Maybe it is missing a little weight on the back end, but it is still a refined Clos-de-Bèze that will age with grace. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.Neal Martin1st January 2022
