Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze is a highly regarded grand cru vineyard at the northern end of the Côte d`Or. This Clos is one of the oldest in Burgundy, having been created by the Abbey of Bèze in the 7th century. Some high-profile producers own parcels here, including Louis Jadot, Domaine Faiveley, Drouhin Laroze and Armand Rousseau, which owns two parcels within the appellation. The wines tend to be smooth and complex, with a rich aroma profile dominated by red berries and oriental spices.

The 2011 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru just has its nose in front when compared directly against the 2011 Chambertin. The oak influence that was conspicuous in its youth is not fully assimilated and there is real brightness, a little more precision on the nose. Red cherries, cassis, hints of dark chocolate combine beautifully here. There is a touch of spiciness on the palate, armed with clove and light tobacco secondary notes that lend another dimension on the complex and persistent finish. Superb. Tasted at Bistro de l'Hôtel in Beaune. Neal Martin1st May 2019
