Domaine Dugat-Py only began estate bottling in 1989 and has only really come to prominence in the last 10 years. The style remains one of generous new oak usage but with extended cellaring this integrates wonderfully, and this is just beginning to hit its stride. It is dense and powerful but has velvety tannins, a keen thread of acidity and a pervading sense of elegance.

The 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru is another wine that still requires patience, unwinding in the glass with a deep bouquet of red berries, spices and orange zest, followed by a medium to full-bodied, taut but layered palate that's built around tangy acids and plenty of stem tannin. This is concentrated and penetrating, but still very tightly wound.William Kelley3rd April 2025
Vinous
(100% vendange entier; these vines were 99 years old in 2013, notes Dugat; there's just a single barrel of this juice): Wild aromas and flavors of black raspberry, dried flowers, minerals and spices, along with an element of meaty reduction. Bracing and totally primary, showing outstanding vigor and great finesse of texture. Totally unevolved today and yet balanced from the start. Dugat will not bottle this wine until at least June, as it needs further élevage to round out in barrel.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2015

A Respect for Tradition

Founded in the late 1980s by Pierre Dugat and now run by his son Bernard, Domaine Dugat-Py have swiftly risen to be recognised as one of the most exciting wineries in the Côte d'Or. Although Bernard produces excellent wines from the communes of Fixin and Pernand Vegelesses, Dugat-Py is primarily known for their excellent Gevrey-Chambertin, which run from Villages level all the way to Grand Cru. Vines are venerable, averaging 65 years, and all vineyard work is done in a traditional manner, including the use of a horse-drawn plough.

Dugat Py have been fully organic since 2003 and are moving towards biodynamic practices in some vineyards. Winemaking is low intervention and the wines are bottling without fining or filtration. The wines are matured in French oak barrels from renowned coopers François Frères and 100% new oak is used for the Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines.
