Chambertin Armand Rousseau 1990 is a Grand Cru red Burgundy, crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes. Its deep ruby hue reveals slight garnet tinges, suggesting maturation. The bouquet showcases dried cherry, blackcurrant and subtle earthy tones, evolving into hints of leather, spice and tobacco. The palate presents a structured profile, with well-integrated tannins and a balanced acidity. This wine embodies the specifics of its vineyard, which is known for its rich, limestone soil.

It is difficult to imagine a wine more gorgeous than the 1990 Chambertin Grand Cru from Armand Rousseau. It's in a beautiful place after 32 years. It is a sibling of the 1985 on the nose with beguiling pure red cherries, crushed stone, fern and with aeration, freshly slice strawberry. There is a warmth here, yet it never impedes the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied, a millefeuille of red fruit lace with Chinese 5-spice and clove, decadent and confident but without hubris and with a surfeit of finesse. There is a wonderful crescendo on the finish with a sustained candied finish. Wonderful. Tasted at the Rousseau Chambertin vertical at La Vienne.Neal Martin21st June 2022

Bright ruby – quite a deep colour actually. Delightfully shaded. Pungent and definitely with lots of tertiary aromas. This has crossed the Rubicon into something serious! Fireworks and explosions. Great breadth and richness. Long and kerpow. So complex and beautfully balanced, Struck match quality. Fine tannins on the finish but lots of pleasure. Tense and exciting. (JR)
