The 1983 Chambertin Grand Cru has a slightly rustic nose with Earl Grey and a touch of menthol, perhaps more like a toothpaste scents. Simple compared to other vintages, including the 1984. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a little coarse yet balanced with some bitterness on the dry finish. Given how rot-affected the growing season, it deserves a light applause, yet it cannot quite escape the limitations of the vintage. Tasted at the Rousseau Chambertin vertical at La Vienne.Neal Martin21st June 2022
