Chacra Barda Pinot Noir 2024 is an organic red wine from the high-desert Río Negro valley in Patagonia, Argentina. This bottling comes from a 24-hectare estate founded by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, whose family created the iconic Tenuta San Guido in Tuscany. The 2024 season was marked by intense January heat, yet the wine maintains a light 12% alcohol and remarkable freshness. Winemaker Gabriele Graia fermented the fruit with 15% whole clusters in cement vats, followed by 11 months of ageing in a mix of concrete, stainless steel and used French oak. The resulting palate is airy and bright, showing wild strawberry and sandalwood notes supported by the tensile, saline mineral finish of ungrafted vines.

Sourced from younger plantings at the estate with declassifications from the upper-level bottlings, the 2024 Barda is a pitch-perfect introduction to the Chacra range. It leads with a radiantly floral and red-fruited bouquet supported by smoky, earth-tinged accents while sacrificing no purity. The palate is silky and suave, smoothly flowing into a balanced, persistent finish. It fermented with 15% whole clusters and matured in equal parts cement amphora and barrique, of which 10% was new. - Matthew Luczy
