Montreal-born Patrick Piuze established his own label in Chablis in 2008 having worked for the likes of Leflaive, Jean-Marc Brocard and Jean-Marie Guffens. He is a terroir obsessive, making no fewer than eight different villages-level wines and tries to express their individual character with vinification entirely in stainless steel.

From the superb 2018 vintage, this is a lovely wine from the commune of Courgis. It is medium- to full-bodied, deep and complex, with delicious notes of green orchard fruits, citrus peel, spring flowers and crushed seashells. There is delicate tension and excellent acidity, suggesting that, whilst great to drink already, it will develop nicely in the cellar.

The 2018 Chablis Terroir de Courgis is one of the most quiet, understated wines in this range. The 2018 has good energy and underlying minerality but it also comes across as a bit disjointed at this stage. The wine's slightly awkward feel is especially evident next to the other wines in this Terroir series.Antonio Galloni1st January 2020
