Founded in 1948, François Raveneau is arguably Chablis`s finest wine producer. Today the domaine is run by François` sons Bernard and Jean-Marie who oversee their eight hectares of land spread across three grand cru and six premier cru sites. The family has ten different parcels of Montée de Tonnerre, aged between 20 and 60 years old. The 2018 vintage is a superb rendition of the appellation, with mouth-watering acidity and stony flavours that are almost Riesling-like.

Vinous
The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a touch more tropical fruit on the nose compared to the Les Butteaux, offering faint passion fruit, white peach and apricot scents with aeration. Lovely definition. The palate is well balanced with a slight waxiness on the entry, and a little pithy in style. Hints of yellow plum and spices emerge toward a finish that develops an appealing creamy texture with time. Excellent. But personally I prefer the nervosité of the Butteaux.
