Founded in 1948, Domaine François Raveneau is one of Chablis`s finest producers, with a cult following all over the world. The estate comprises eight hectares of land spread across three Grand Cru and six Premier Cru sites. All the grapes are harvested manually, one of the very few remaining producers in Chablis to do so. This release comes from Montée de Tonnerre, a Premier Cru where the grapes ripen easily, especially since they are protected from the East winds. 2005 is widely regarded as a legendary vintage across the board and the remaining available wines are in very high demand.

Vinous
Bright gold-tinged yellow. Aromas of citrus fruits, minerals and spices, with deeper notes of honey, truffle and oatmeal emerging with air. A rich, powerful, uncompromisingly dry Chablis with more energy and cut than the 2006. This was austere from the start and there's nothing easy about it even today. But the finish impresses for its tactile texture and wet-stone minerality, and there's fruit lurking, so I would check back in on this very broad wine in another couple of years.Stephen Tanzer1st August 2019
