Hailing from a respected Chablis family, Samuel Billaud embarked on his own venture in 2009, founding his own domaine. Prior to this, he had been the winemaker at Domaine Billaud-Simon, an esteemed producer within the realm of classic Chablis quality. Since the inception of his label, Samuel has achieved remarkable success. This release hails from Mont de Milieu, a Premier Cru situated on the eastern banks of the Serein River. Following the frost challenges of 2021, the arrival of the warm and sun-kissed 2022 vintage brought relief to Chablis` winemakers, who were pleased with a bountiful harvest of exceptional quality.

The 2022 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru has a tightly wound nose with a hint of seaweed (Japanese wakame) infusing the malic aromas. The palate is taut and fresh, crisp and linear with fine grip, quite classical in style, which is amazing in such a hot growing season. Real nervosité and tension on the sapid finish—superb. Bottled under Diam 30. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin15th June 2026

Tank sample. 20% of the final wine is fermented and aged in oak, then blended after one year and kept in tank on fine lees for another six months but because the barrels were still going through malo at the time of this tasting, this is just the tank part.
Salty freshness on the nose. Piercing green fruits and citrus and a hint of dried grasses. On the palate, mouth-coating creaminess and a light grain that appears to soften the acidity. Terrific clarity and precision. (JH) Julia Harding12th July 2023
