Raveneau Chablis Les Clos 2014 is a full-bodied Grand Cru Chablis from the climat of Les Clos. Domaine Vincent Dauvissat produces some of the Chablis region’s most complex and age-worthy Chardonnays. Established in the 1970s by Robert Dauvissat, the domaine has been passed down from father to son for three generations. Vincent is now in charge of cellar and has helped to cement his family`s status as the pre-eminent name in Chablis winemaking. Chablis` largest Grand Cru, Les Clos boasts ideal south and south-westerly exposition, providing optimum sun exposure which in turn yields some of the region`s most full-bodied wines. On the 2014. "In many years, I have a hard time deciding whether I prefer the Valmur or the Clos in the Raveneau cellars, but in 2014, the Clos is clearly my favourite. This is a legendary bottle of Chablis in the making in this vintage, as it soars in its aromatic constellation of gorgeously complex, kaleidoscopic minerality, apples, pears, lemon zest, white flowers and a touch of anise as a topnote for the aromatic fireworks. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and seamlessly delineated, with a great core, stunning focus and grip and a very, very long, racy and very mineral finish. The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru les Clos has a much more expressive bouquet than the 2015, with beautiful orange blossom and smoky scents decorating the nose. The palate is very well balanced and so saline in the mouth that you almost want to reach for your bucket and spade. This Les Clos is so seductive and so harmonious, seeming to bloom and deliver fabulous intensity on the finish. Whereas Valmur is the pick in 2015, the Les Clos might be the pick in 2014, thanks to its sense of completeness. But as I mentioned in my remarks from barrel last year, patience will be paramount for those seeking to witness this Chablis at its peak. - Neal Martin

Completely closed on the nose following the Valmur, hinting at citrus peel, yellow plum, wild herbs and toast. At once dense and weightless, delivering painful cut to its penetrating flavors of stony minerality, citrus peel and anise. There's no way into this impenetrable, imploded wine today. Best today on the juicy, building finish, which saturates the palate with musky oyster-shell minerality, licorice and grapefruit zest. With its extraordinary solidity and cut, this potentially great wine really calls for a decade of cellaring and should be very long-lived.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2016
