Domaine Raveneau is arguably the finest wine producer in Chablis with a solid reputation across the globe. The Domaine was established by François Raveneau in 1948 and is currently run by cousins Isabelle and Maxime. Raveneau pioneered the use of Côte d`Or winemaking in Chablis, including barrel fermentation and extended lees contact. This release comes from Butteaux, a Premier Cru climat where Raveneau owns a 1.5-hectare plot of 50-year-old vines. The 2010 produced a relatively small crop but the wines turned out beautiful. Drinking well now.

Raveneau's 2010 Chablis Butteaux is beautifully expressive on the bouquet, where layers of petrol, smoke and melted rocks fuse together with notable elegance. The Butteaux is a wine of all dimensions; it is at once vertical and horizontal, with fabulous purity and exceptional overall balance. This is one of the larger-scaled 2010s here. In many ways it encapsulates the personality of the vintage. Antonio Galloni1st August 2012
