The 2020 Château Certan de May is an exquisite blend, predominantly composed of 65% Merlot, complemented by 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine presents a dense, medium to full-bodied profile, characterized by impeccable ripeness. It boasts chalky tannins that interplay with flavours of dark cassis and berry fruits, accompanied by notes of violets and chocolate. While it is already approachable now, it will benefit from a few more years in the cellar.

A blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Certan de May is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with notes of wild blueberries, Morello cherries, and raspberry coulis, followed by hints of roses, damp soil, and tar. The medium to full-bodied palate is refreshing and vibrant, with plush tannins and a perfumed finish. Very pretty!Lisa Perrotti-Brown12th March 2023

The 2020 Certan de May thankfully shows far better than it did in barrel and just after bottling. Here, it has an open, earthy and leafy bouquet that is quite classical in style and needs a little more fruit concentration. The palate is balanced and medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, decent weight and depth, if just a bit conservative on the finish. That said, I appreciate its restraint in the context of the growing season. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Neal Martin12th November 2024

Chateau Certan de May

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the prized central plateau of Pomerol, Château Certan de May is situated adjacent to two other world famous Right Bank properties - Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus. The vineyards are characterised by the mix of clay and gravel typical of the commune and the winemaking has a focus on concentration and power. Michel Rolland was consulting in the cellar until 2012 when Jean-Claude Berrouet took over.

The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging around 50 years of age. Wines are fermented for between four and six weeks before around 18 months ageing in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.
