Certan de May 2006 is a Pomerol Bordeaux from a historic estate known for its focus on traditional winemaking. The wine is primarily composed of Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. Its nose offers rich aromas of dark fruit, earthy undertones, and a touch of spice, while the palate reveals a complex structure with velvety tannins and a balanced acidity. The 2006 vintage, influenced by a warm growing season, shows a mature profile with depth and concentration. Certan de May is known for its exceptional terroir, with vines planted on gravel and clay soils, producing wines that evolve beautifully with age. This estate has been a part of Pomerol`s wine heritage since the late 19th century, delivering wines of power and elegance.

Full, deep red-ruby. Sexy aromas of roasted raspberry, plum liqueur, coffee, smoke, mocha and chocolate. Enticing and exotic Pomerol, with lush flavors of roasted plum and musky coffee leavened by a medicinal reserve. In spite of its enticing sweetness and fullness, this is rather backward today, with the dusty, substantial tannins calling for at least a few years of patience. But the wine's firm backbone and excellent breadth and length suggest it should age well.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2009

Sweet, big and bold and juicy. Quite open and loose compared with some other Pomerols in the Moueix stable. Slightly green tannins on the finish. Lacks a little intensity and nerve. (JR)

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the prized central plateau of Pomerol, Château Certan de May is situated adjacent to two other world famous Right Bank properties - Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus. Michel Rolland was consulting in the cellar until 2012 when Jean-Claude Berrouet took over.

The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging around 50 years of age. Wines are fermented for between four and six weeks before around 18 months ageing in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.
