Château Certan De May 1995 is a mature-vintage, Merlot-based red wine from the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux. Situated on the Pomerol plateau, between Vieux-Chateaux Certan and Pétrus, Château Certan de May is a 5-hectare property currently managed by legendary winemaker Jean-Luc Barreau. The vineyard is planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which grow on a combination of clay and gravel soils. On the 1995 vintage. " Some mineral flavour and definitely ripe fruit. Lovely wine – very interesting and beautiful weight, Much more than just ripe. Lots of character. It reveals itself slowly. Long." Jancis Robinson MW, 2005

Darker red, but not especially saturated. Deeper, riper aromas of plum and framboise, with smoky oak and mint notes adding complexity; showed a note of surmaturite that reminded me of a Bonneau Chateauneuf du Pape. Fairly strong on the attack, then the richest and sweetest of these three vintages by a wide margin. Concentrated and firmly structured. Finishes with dusty, tactile tannins and assertive flavors of kirsch, coffee and olive.Stephen Tanzer1st May 1998

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the prized central plateau of Pomerol, Château Certan de May is situated adjacent to two other world famous Right Bank properties - Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus. The vineyards are characterised by the mix of clay and gravel typical of the commune and the winemaking has a focus on concentration and power. Michel Rolland was consulting in the cellar until 2012 when Jean-Claude Berrouet took over.

The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging around 50 years of age. Wines are fermented for between four and six weeks before around 18 months ageing in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.
