Château Certan de May is situated in the heart of the plateau of Pomerol, rubbing shoulders with the appellation’s most celebrated neighbours. Petrus, Vieux Château Certan and Le Pin. The estate produces excellent wines, which tend to be exotic, perfumed and slightly tarty expressions of Pomerol. This example from 1983 should be reaching its peak now.

First Class Pomerol

Situated on the prized central plateau of Pomerol, Château Certan de May is situated adjacent to two other world famous Right Bank properties - Vieux Château Certan and La Fleur-Pétrus. The vineyards are characterised by the mix of clay and gravel typical of the commune and the winemaking has a focus on concentration and power. Michel Rolland was consulting in the cellar until 2012 when Jean-Claude Berrouet took over.

The vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with vines averaging around 50 years of age. Wines are fermented for between four and six weeks before around 18 months ageing in oak barrels, around 40% of which are new.
