Château Lafite-Rothschild Carruades de Lafite 2021 is a Left Bank Bordeaux from the celebrated Lafite-Rothschild First Growth in Pauillac. Carruades de Lafite is the much-admired second wine of the estate. The 2021 is an assemblage of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. This marks the first year of organic conversion for the estate`s vineyards. "A strong effort that demonstrates how much progress this bottling has made over the last 10 to 15 years, the 2021 Carruades de Lafite exhibits aromas of sweet berries, pencil shavings, warm spices and nicely integrated oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and impressively intense, it`s seamless and refined, delivering plenty of Lafite character." William Kelley, 2022

The 2021 Carruades de Lafite, which contains 10% vin de presse (a little less than usual), has a fragrant bouquet, very pure, focused and impressively delineated with blackberry, pencil shavings and light tobacco scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a lilting opening, clean, fresh black fruit, plenty of graphite notes and a dash of cracked black pepper on the finish. This is a fine Carruades that will give up to 20 years of drinking pleasure. - Neil Martin
