Carruades de Lafite 2010 is a prestigious second wine from Pauillac, presented in magnum format. The 2010 vintage is widely considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux history, characterised by high acidity, high alcohol and immense tannic power. The blend features a high proportion of Merlot compared to the Grand Vin, which provides a more approachable and plush texture in its youth. This magnum bottling offers a concentrated profile of cassis, graphite and violets, with a structural density that suggests decades of evolution ahead. Following 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels, the wine displays a seamless integration of fruit and wood.

The 2010 Carruades de Lafite has a generous bouquet with “playful” red berry fruit, liquorice and cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, plush and rounded in texture. It just comes across a little blocky on the finish when I am seeking more tension and delineation. This bottle questions the longevity of this Second label. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the BI Wines & Spirits 10-Year On tasting. Neal Martin1st April 2020
