`Carruades de Lafite 1995 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Carruades de Lafite is the second wine of the Pauillac First Growth, Château Lafite Rothschild. It is created from grapes sourced from the younger vines of the vineyards, as well as from specific, older parcels that do not meet the strict criteria for inclusion in the Grand Vin. Despite being the second wine, Carruades de Lafite still upholds the reputation and quality associated with the Lafite Rothschild estate. "I have noticed in my tastings that the second wine of Lafite-Rothschild, Carruades de Lafite, has improved over recent years. The 1995 is a 40% Merlot/60% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It exhibits more of the trademark characteristics of its bigger sibling. Elegant, with spicy new oak, lead pencil, and creamy black currant fruit, this is a medium-bodied, finesse-styled wine with excellent purity and overall equilibrium." Wine Advocate, 1998

Less ripe shoe polish and mint aromas. Smoother and less rustic than the above, but not as expressive or dense. But this is bright and nicely defined, with clear black fruit flavor. Stephen Tanzer1st May 1996
