Château Angélus is one of the most prestigious estates in Saint-Émilion, owned by the Boüard de Laforest family since 1782. This release is the 2019 vintage of its second wine, a blend composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. On the nose, expect aromas of ripe, fresh fruit complemented by subtle oak notes. Despite its youth, the wine is approachable on the palate, revealing a good tannic structure underpinned by firm acidity. Excellent ageing potential.

Vinous
The 2019 Le Carillon d'Angélus has another high-toned and quite alcoholic bouquet - you can feel the warmth from the glass and it blurs the edges. The palate is more controlled with fleshy black fruit. The oak is well-integrated. Smooth in texture, the acidity is nicely judged, though the finish just lacks a bit of flair at the moment. Bottle age will benefit this wine. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023
