Château Angélus, a 1er Grand Cru St Emilion, is one of the region’s great names, known particular for producing wines with a high content of Cabernet Franc. The 2018 Carillon d`Angelus reveals aromas of black cherries, raspberry coulis and subtle orange pith, with well-integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple tannins, plenty of lightly spiced red fruit and a refined, saline finish.

As explained in my original notes from barrel, the 2018 Carillon d’Angélus is augmented by an additional eight hectares from recent acquisitions: three hectares in Tour St. Christophe and five hectares between Cheval Blanc and Figeac. This has developed on the nose, gaining a little more precision and revealing blackberry, raspberry, orange peel and light rose petal scents, the new oak still beautifully integrated. The palate is very well balanced with grainy tannins, and velvety-smooth. Just a faint graphite element tinctures the black fruit, and there is an almost Left Bank structure to the briny finish. A Right Bank Institution

This prestigious Saint-Émilion estate produces superb Right Bank Bordeaux and has been in the de Boüard family since 1782. Spanning 39ha, the Château Angélus estate is planted to 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and full conversion to completely organic farming began in 2018.

The estate's vines are positioned with perfect southern exposure on a sloping vineyard where the soils on lower potion are sandier and the upper portion richer in limestone and clay - perfect for both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Along with the Grand Vin, a second wine, Le Carillon d’Angélus, as well as a third wine, No 3 d’ Angélus, are also made.
