Château Capbern 2014 is a Left Bank Bordeaux red wine from the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, reflecting the estate`s gravelly terroir near the Gironde estuary. The 2014 vintage in Saint-Estèphe was particularly successful, producing wines with great volume and a sophisticated tannic structure. The wine shows a smooth, velvety entry that gives way to a more masculine, peppery second half. Aromatics of cassis, incense and graphite are prominent, underpinned by a cooling mineral edge. This is a well-structured, sophisticated Saint-Estèphe with a long, earthy finish.

Gorgeous bright and cheerful fruits, lovely dark plum colour, has the look and feel on a young wine, delivering tannic grip and hold. This could begin to be drunk today, but no need to rush, plenty of character and impressive black fruits. Excellent quality, harvest September 20 to October 10.Jane Anson20th October 2022

The 2014 Capbern has a wonderful bouquet, very well-defined with blackberry, bilberry and cedar aromas; focused and vivacious. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, quite approachable in style with a caressing raspberry and crushed strawberry finish. This is very fine and let’s face it: a bloody good value. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.Neal Martin1st March 2018
