Caol Ila is one of Islay’s most revered distilleries, famed for producing a distinctive style of peated single malt that balances maritime character with a refined, smoky elegance. Founded in 1846 and overlooking the Sound of Islay, Caol Ila has long been a favourite among independent bottlers and blenders, with its spirit prized for its versatility and consistently high quality.

These refill hogshead casks were filled on 7th October 2024 at a robust 63.6% ABV. With an Original Litres of Alcohol (OLA) of 142.52, it offers a compelling long-term maturation potential. Expect classic Caol Ila character: clean peat smoke, coastal salinity, and a bright, citrus-driven core that will evolve beautifully over time.

This offer includes three years of storage and insurance at Braeside Bond.

An Islay Powerhouse

One of the largest distilleries on Islay, Caol Ila was founded on the north of the island, near Port Askaig, in 1846. The distillery water source is Loch Nam Ban providing water filtered through a combination of limestone and peat. Caol Ila produces nearly four million litres a year, mostly for premium blended whiskies like Johnnie Walker. Only around a twentieth of the production is bottled as a single malt.

While the house-style is a classic, peated Islay malt, Caol Ila have successfully experimented with unpeated whiskies over the years. The core range features a 12 year old and an 18 year old along with Moch, a lighter style of single malt that takes its name from the Garlic for 'dawn'.
