Château Cantenac Brown was founded in 1806 by John Lewis Brown, a Scottish-born animal painter. The estate was classified as a Third Grand Cru in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and it is currently owned by the Le Lous family, who acquired the property in 2019. The 1996 vintage is a charming wine, combining notes of mature red fruit, caramel, fine leather, liquorice and some herbs.

Vinous
The 1996 Cantenac Brown, which I have never before tasted, has a strong espresso scented nose, rather floral with better delineation than the 1998. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, quite austere. It feels a little hollow towards the finish. I think this should be drunk soon. Tasted at the Cantenac Brown vertical at the château. - Neil Martin
