Cantemerle 1982 is a classic Bordeaux from the Haut-Médoc region, embodying the characteristics of this renowned Fifth Growth estate. The 1982 vintage, often cited as exceptional, benefitted from a hot summer that yielded deeply concentrated wines. This half-bottle format enhances the maturing process, revealing a profile that showcases evolved notes of cassis, black cherry, earth, tobacco and cedar.
90 Vinous
Bright red-ruby. Lovely, perfumed aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, mocha, cedar and tobacco. Silky-sweet and classy, with excellent vinosity and grip. This wine has put on weight since the last time I tried it a few years ago. Finishes firmly tannic and persistent. An excellent showing.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2002
87 Robert Parker
This wine has turned out better than I would have thought. It is loosely structured, soft, and easy-going, but lacking the concentration and opulent texture that are hallmarks of the vintage`s finest wines. It is revealing some amber, but no other degradation in the color or aromatics. The sweet, herb, peppery, and berry-scented nose is followed by a friendly wine with round, generous, medium-bodied flavors with no hard edges. Although it will not get much better, it will drink well for another decade . It does not hold a candle to the spectacular 1983, which remains gorgeously rich, young, and super-concentrated. Tasted 9 times since bottling with consistent notes. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
15.5 Jancis Robinson
Quite pale rim. Deeply scented. Nutty notes. Fragrant and sweet, then chewy with quite tough tannins. (JR)
