Miani Calvari 2006 is a full-bodied red wine produced from Refosco grapes in the Friuli region of northern Italy. Miani’s Enzo Pontoni is one of Italy’s premier cult winemakers. Working with just 13 hectares in the Colli Orientali DOC yields are miniscule and total annual production is only 9000 bottles. His wines are known for their fruit intensity and textural richness but are always impeccably balanced and surprisingly long-lived. "The 2006 Calvari is a towering wine of epic proportions. Dark, hulking and muscular, it emerges from the glass with masses of blackberry and blueberry jam, spices, new leather espresso and grilled herbs. Graphite and liquorice follow, adding further layers of complexity that lead to the marvellously explosive, palate staining finish. The Calvari possesses dazzling power, class and intensity, all in a style that elevates Refosco to a level this rustic, indigenous grape has never aspired to." Antonio Galloni, 2015
