The 2006 Château Calon-Ségur was current winemaker Vincent Millet`s first vintage and is a blend of 33% Merlot, 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. The nose is very elegant and dominated by red berries and some spices. The palate is pure, with great mid-palate concentration. The wine has an extremely long finish, perfectly balanced, and reminiscent of the château`s outstanding 1995 vintage. Drink now through to 2030.

Bright ruby-red. Perfumed, terroir-driven aromas and flavors of redcurrant, licorice, iron, cinders, woodsmoke, minerals and pepper, plus a whiff of meat. At once dense and suave, with herbal and peppery nuances contributing to the wine's impression of insinuating vinosity and inner-mouth aromatic character. Almost rustic in its soil tones but not in its refined texture. Finishes with building tannins and a juicy freshness. A wine worth following.
17.5 Jancis Robinson
Remarkably deep crimson. Savoury, racy nose with good depth and confidence. Not heavy or rustic – really quite transparent and with almost Lafite-like lift and race. Well done with no greenness and just a little tightening on the finish. Finer than the more solid Montrose. Positively succulent! You might reproach it for being just a little lightweight… (JR)

A Saint-Estèphe Superstar

Château Calon-Ségur is the most northerly of the Médoc Grand-Crus Classés and is renowned for wines with excellent depth of fruit and great longevity. One of the stars of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Calon-Ségur was categorised as a third growth in the famous 1855 classification of Bordeaux châteaux.

The estate produces two beautiful reds: the celebrated first wine in addition to a second, known as Marquis de Calon. The estate’s key varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, which are used to make superb, consistently excellent Bordeaux that rewards long-term ageing.
