Château Calon-Ségur is unique in the Medoc as the vineyards are in one single plot surrounded by tall stone walls. This 1986 grand vin is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The nose is fully mature, revealing wilted violets, candied red fruit, clove and dried orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, with plenty of density and satisfying freshness.

A Saint-Estèphe Superstar
Château Calon-Ségur is the most northerly of the Médoc Grand-Crus Classés and is renowned for wines with excellent depth of fruit and great longevity. One of the stars of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Calon-Ségur was categorised as a third growth in the famous 1855 classification of Bordeaux châteaux.
The estate produces two beautiful reds: the celebrated first wine in addition to a second, known as Marquis de Calon. The estate’s key varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, which are used to make superb, consistently excellent Bordeaux that rewards long-term ageing.
