Calera is a prestigious wine producer in California, known for its high-quality expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It was founded by Josh Jensen in 1975, and it is located in the Mount Harlan AVA in the Gavilan Mountains. The Jensen Vineyard is one of Calera`s most famous single vineyards, planted with Pinot Noir vines in 1975 on limestone-rich soils. 1990 proved to be an exceptional vintage for California, with the majority, if not all, of the AVAs achieving success.

A huge, powerful wine, the 1990 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard hits the palate with serious depth and intensity. The flavors are quite dark in a brooding, virile Pinot Noir endowed with a real sense of gravitas. Although not one of the more finessed wines made at Calera, the 1990 Jensen has certainly held up well. Smoke, game, licorice and worn-in leather all hint at full maturity and suggest the 1990 needs to be enjoyed within the next few years. Antonio Galloni1st September 2015
