Bunnahabhain 1969 Tantalus Duncan Taylor is an Islay single malt distilled in 1969 and bottled in 2010 at 40 years of age. This expression was matured in single Sherry cask number 5384 and bottled at a natural cask strength of 41.2%. The presentation features a decanter made from the original cask staves. The liquid displays a concentrated profile of rancio, furniture polish and dried plums, typical of four decades of European oak maturation. On the palate, the texture is syrupy, carrying notes of dark chocolate, leather and espresso. The finish is extensive and dry, with the wood providing a firm, tannic structure. It represents the oldest tier of the distillery`s remaining 1960s stocks.

Often known as the "gateway malt" for those looking to explore the smoky malts of Islay, Bunnahabhain is more lightly peated than most other whiskies produced on the island. Situated on the north-eastern coast, the distillery name means "mouth of the river" in Gaelic.
Historically noted for a waxy, oily mouthfeel, low peat levels and a hint of sea spray, Bunnahabhain have since experimented with more heavily peated drams, in-keeping with the style of their island neighbours. The youngest age statement in the core range is 12 years old while limited edition cask finishes have won the distillery awards globally.
