Bunnahabhain 1981 On The Road Velier is a single malt from the Islay region distilled in 1981 and bottled in 1995 for the Italian market. This 14 Year Old expression was selected by the importer Velier and bottled at 43% ABV. The 1981 distillation is characterised by a clean, honeyed malt profile that avoids heavy cask influence. The liquid exhibits notes of green apple, floral honey and sea spray, reflecting the unpeated style that became the distillery’s hallmark in the 1980s. On the palate, it is light-bodied and displays flavours of malted barley and vanilla, with a distinct maritime salinity on the finish. It provides a snapshot of the distillery`s spirit before the move towards higher age statements and active Sherry finishing.

The Lighter Side of Islay
Often known as the "gateway malt" for those looking to explore the smoky malts of Islay, Bunnahabhain is more lightly peated than most other whiskies produced on the island. Situated on the north-eastern coast, the distillery name means "mouth of the river" in Gaelic.
Historically noted for a waxy, oily mouthfeel, low peat levels and a hint of sea spray, Bunnahabhain have since experimented with more heavily peated drams, in-keeping with the style of their island neighbours. The youngest age statement in the core range is 12 years old while limited edition cask finishes have won the distillery awards globally.
