Bunnahabhain Moine is a peated single malt from the Islay region bottled in 2003, representing an early modern experiment with heavy smoke. This expression predates the regular release of the Moine range and displays a more industrial, ash-driven character. The spirit was distilled from barley peated to approximately 35-40ppm and spent its maturation in refill bourbon barrels. The profile is defined by wet coal, soot, and a sharp citrus bite. On the palate, the liquid is oily and exhibits notes of sea spray and kippers, with the smoke remaining separate from the malt sweetness. The finish is dry and lingering with a metallic edge.

The Lighter Side of Islay
Often known as the "gateway malt" for those looking to explore the smoky malts of Islay, Bunnahabhain is more lightly peated than most other whiskies produced on the island. Situated on the north-eastern coast, the distillery name means "mouth of the river" in Gaelic.
Historically noted for a waxy, oily mouthfeel, low peat levels and a hint of sea spray, Bunnahabhain have since experimented with more heavily peated drams, in-keeping with the style of their island neighbours. The youngest age statement in the core range is 12 years old while limited edition cask finishes have won the distillery awards globally.
