Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso Ciacci Piccolomini d`Aragona 2010 is a single-vineyard expression from the renowned Pianrosso site, famed for its distinctive terroir. This Brunello is composed entirely of Sangiovese grapes, grown at elevations of 240 to 360 metres, with south west-facing slopes that promote optimal ripening. Aged in oak casks for an extended period, the wine offers aromas of dark berry fruits, root beer and rosemary. Best enjoyed until 2030.

Beautiful and delicate from the start, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso impresses for its depth and balance. The wine sees one more year of oak cask aging compared to the base Brunello and you can definitely sense the extra spice on the nose. Those delicate balsam notes of root beer, ginger and rosemary oil are still prominently on display. Rich spice, leather and tar are followed by dark fruit, prune, blackberry and cassis. The finish is graceful and silky, but its length remains impressive. This is a terrific effort that promises a steady evolution ahead. - Monica Larner

The 2010 Ciacci Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso is everything a contemporary Brunello from the southern side of town is supposed to be; warm, open, generous and easy to drink on release. A gorgeous, textured wine, the Pianrosso only suffers because of some of the other wines on the table. In any other context, it would surely be one of the very best wines on the table. This is a gorgeous showing. The Pianrosso also forms an instructive contrast to the Casanova di Neri. Both wines are made in a style that emphasizes richness and texture, but the Ciacci has much more depth through the middle and a considerably longer finish.Antonio Galloni1st December 2015

Deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Concentrated yet cool and still pretty austere. Impressive concentration of ripe fruit held perfectly in balance by rich, almost Barolo-like, tactile tannins on the finish. (WS)
