Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille 1995 is a full-bodied Sangiovese red wine from the Montalcino sub-region of Tuscany, central Italy. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994. From here they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille."1995 was the first vintage where Angelo Gaja had total control over the viticulture and vinification of these Brunello di Montalcinos. This wine is spectacular, and among the finest I tasted from this vintage. The 1995 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille is a beast! A closed, dense, tannic behemoth, it possesses huge body, exceptional concentration and power, and remarkable levels of black cherry liqueur infused with smoke, dried herbs, cedar, and liquorice. The opaque garnet colour is not indicative of a wine this closed and backward. Give it 5-6 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 25-30 years. This is an exceptionally impressive Brunello from Angelo Gaja." Wine Advocate, 2000

Deeper and more saturated in color. Very warm, sweet aromas of plum and chocolate, along with a light oakiness that does not disturb. Fuller, denser and more solid than the regular Brunello bottling, but also more focused; spicy and quite fresh. Finishes with velvety, polished tannins and very good texture. The Gaja Winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. One of Italy’s most renowned and dynamic wineries, Gaja first established its world-class reputation with the powerful reds it produced in the region of Piemonte in Northwestern Italy.

A key figure was Angelo Gaja, who took over the running of the estate in 1970 and sought to showcase the best that the Nebbiolo grape could produce with stellar Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate produces unique white wines too, such as the marvellous single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica.

Gaja is also a leading name in Tuscany, having diversified into the production of Brunello and Super Tuscan wines. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994 from which they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille. In 1996, Angelo Gaja purchased the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri.
