The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio Antico 2006 is a pure expression of Sangiovese, originating from a historic vineyard in Montalcino, Tuscany. This wine showcases a complex profile with structured tannins and a depth of flavours developed through its extended Riserva ageing process. Poggio Antico, founded in 1976, from the union of three properties located on one of the highest ridges of Montalcino. This Riserva is a reflection of both the terroir and the careful vinification practices employed by the producer.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva comes across as a bit laid back relative to the 2001 and 2004 in this flight, but that is to be expected. Silky and perfumed at first, the 2006 has plenty of depth and overall structure, but those qualities are expressed in an understated manner. Time brings out the wine’s depth and persistence nicely. - Antonio Galloni - Medium bright red. Warm aromas of plum, spices, marzipan and nutty oak. Plush, rich and pliant, showing terrific depth to its sweet red fruit flavors. Quite large-scaled for a Brunello from this estate, and surprisingly approachable now. Finishes with chewy but smooth tannins, excellent length and a taste of vanillin oak.
