Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio Antico 1997 is a distinguished expression of Sangiovese, crafted only in exceptional years by the renowned Poggio Antico estate. This Riserva showcases a deep garnet hue and aromas that have developed over time, revealing notes of dark cherry, dried fig, leather and spices alongside earthy undertones. The palate presents a firm structure with integrated tannins, reflecting extensive aging in both French and Slavonian oak barrels.

Vinous
Saturated, deep ruby-red. Captivating, somewhat idiosyncratic nose combines redcurrant, burnished smoky oak, Szechuan peppercorn, exotic spices, blood orange and a saline suggestion of sea salt. Silky, tactile and very rich, with enough harmonious acidity to give this very broad, pliant wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Red berry flavors are complicated by gunflint and smoky oak. Juicy, elegant, long Brunello, finishing with very suave tannins. Stephen Tanzer1st September 2003
