Costanti Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2010 is a full-bodied, mature-vintage red wine produced from Sangiovese grapes in the Montalcino sub-region of Tuscany. Winemaker-proprietor Andrea Costanti combines a respect for traditional methods in the vineyard and cellar with a meticulously quality-orientated approach to create Sangiovese wines that are truly reflective of the Montalcino terroir. "This is a spectacular effort. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows deep, inner intensity and lovely aromatic characteristics that are very true to the mighty Sangiovese grape. You can`t go wrong with a wine like this, especially if you are seeking the true flavours of Montalcino. The aromas are presented in neat and tidy fashion with wild berry, blue flower, spice and herb that converge to create a united front. In the mouth, the wine delivers ample power and momentum with dark flavours and firm structure. The wine need another few years of bottle aging to flesh out further." Monica Larner, 2016

Dark and brooding, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva displays mint and split pine aromas, opening the stage for a blend of cherry sauce, sage and clove. This shows noticeable weight upon entry yet quickly gains lift as brisk acidity enlivens masses of mineral-laced red berry fruits and inner cedar tones. Its tannins are starting to soften, yet the 2010 remains primary. Dark chocolate and blood orange resonate through the long, hauntingly dark, structured finale. I was expecting more freshness from this wine and a better balance between fruit and tannin. That said, there's nothing necessarily wrong with this bottle of 2010 Riserva. It may just be going through an odd phase. Eric Guido1st October 2024
