Ridolfi Brunello di Montalcino 2017 is a full-bodied Sangiovese red wine from the Montalcino sub-region of Tuscany, central Italy. Established in 2011 but tracing its family history in Tuscany back to the 13th century, Ridolfi is an exciting quality-orientated wine estate at which winemaking is overseen by former Poggio di Sotto cellar chief Gianni Maccari. The estate`s Brunello di Montalcino is produced from 100% hand harvested Sangiovese and is aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a further 12 months in bottle. A hedonistic Brunello with notes of mature cherry and strawberry fruit, tar and dried herb, combined with the structure to age well for another 15 years.
89 Vinous
The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is deep and savory, with crushed raspberry and cherry sauce complemented by hints of tobacco and tomato leaf. This is a soft, pure effort that impresses with a mineral-tinged mix of red berries and licorice tones. It’s lightly structured with a salty flourish and residual acids that help to keep the expression lively and fresh.
15.5 Jancis Robinson
Just mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Soft, ripe maraschino nose and sweet cherry fruit on the palate. It`s juicy and open-knit and a little simple, but certainly long. For immediate drinking. (WS)
