Duty Charges

Below is a summary of the new duty charges per bottle as of February 2026. Please note that these vary depending on the ABV and are subject to change. Please get in touch if you require more information:

Transparent Billing and Rate Calculations

Annual Billing: Clients are invoiced annually based on the wines stored in the preceding year.
Case Equivalents: A case is defined as 9 litres of wine (typically twelve 750ml bottles), ensuring clarity in pricing.
Pro-Rata Charges: Storage fees are charged on a per-bottle basis, and wines stored for part of a month will be billed accordingly.

How to Use Our Bonded Storage

Purchase en primeur or under-bond wines from Hedonism Wines.
Automatically enjoy twelve months of free storage at our bonded storage when you open your storage account.
After twelve months, your storage will continue at the rates outlined above, with quarterly invoicing.
When you are ready to receive your wines, simply request delivery. Most orders are fulfilled within 3-4 working days.

In the 2018 vintage, Il Poggione`s Brunello di Montalcino exhibits a captivating dark and savoury character, boasting more fruit weight and concentration than many of its counterparts. The wine`s core holds a rich density, with flavours of dark cherry, blackberry, toasted spices, smoky mahogany, and earthy nuances. Surprisingly, despite its robust aromas, this Sangiovese maintains a streamlined and polished texture. The tannins are soft, making the wine approachable. As the estate`s Riserva Vigna Paganelli was not produced in 2018, the fruit destined for it found a place in this impressive Brunello instead. Available here in half-bottles.

Impressing from the first tilt of the glass, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino makes itself known, with a heady burst of exotic spice and crushed ashen stone giving way to dried black cherries and grilled herbs. This combines the energy of the vintage with the dark balsamic-tinged fruits of Montalcino’s southern reaches, as zesty acidity maintains balance throughout, and flinty minerals saturate toward the close. It finishes long, savory and structured, yet its tannins are more rounded than anticipated, creating both a classic feel, but also leaving a mouthwatering sensation that tricks the taster back to the glass for more. Easily one of the top wines of the vintage, the 2018 is not to be missed. Eric Guido15th December 2022

The Il Poggione estate is in the hotter, south-west part of the Montalcino DOCG. Fabrizio Bindocci was the chief winemaker here for many years and now his son Alessandro fulfills this role, while Fabrizio has become president of the Brunello Consorzio. This 2018 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino has smoky, tarry aromas that I often find on this producer’s wines becoming more like a waxy, lifted note as it opens up and then becomes more oaky. What I like about this Brunello is that there is an intense, nervy, energy to this wine. It is tightly wrought like a coiled spring. The tannins have become much more refined in recent vintages from Il Poggione and in addition there is a kind of lively, energy to this wine.Susan Hulme23rd February 2023

An Historic Tuscan Estate

Il Poggione’s stellar reputation for producing fine, long-aged Brunellos is down to the skilled and highly experienced winemakers who have managed the winery cellars: Pierluigi Talenti from 1958 until his death in 1999, ably followed by Fabrizio Bindocci (also the president of the wine consortium Brunello di Montalcino DOCG) and, from 2005, Fabrizio’s son Alessandro.

In the cellar, traditional winemaking prevails, with the use of a submerged cap (the grape solids which rise to the surface of the vats during fermentation) and frequent pumpovers preferred to maximise extraction and ageing conducted in large French oak casks. The standard Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino is matured in cask for three years before a further period of bottle age before release. The estate’s Riserva bottling, which is only made in exceptionally good vintages, spends an additional year in cask.
