The Brunello di Montalcino Banfi 1999 presents a deep ruby color with garnet hues, typical of its age. Aromas of black cherry, dried plums, and earthy notes unfold from the glass, complemented by hints of cedar and tobacco. On the palate, it showcases firm tannins and a balanced acidity, which provide structure and a sense of depth. flavours of dark fruit are met with an underlying spiciness and a touch of leather, reflecting the wine`s maturity.

This wine comes from one of the premier wine regions in Italy, renowned for its Sangiovese varietal. The 1999 vintage experienced optimal growing conditions, resulting in grapes with excellent concentration. Banfi, founded in 1978, has made strides in the region, focusing on sustainable viticulture practices. This Brunello has the potential for further aging, offering a glimpse into the complexity that well-crafted wines can develop over time.

Impressive saturated ruby, extremely dark for Brunello. Brooding aromas of dark berry syrup and licorice; distinct hints of surmaturite Then big, broad and extremely unevolved; highly concentrated but currently monolithic, and not really displaying its fruit. Finishes with big, chewy but ultimately rather fine tannins. Impressive in a modern style, but is this too solid for its own good?Stephen Tanzer1st September 2004
