Brora Connoisseurs Choice Gordon & MacPhail 1982 is a Highland single malt distilled in 1982 and bottled here as a rare 5cl sample of the distillery final production year. This expression provides a focused look at the waxy and coastal spirit that defined the estate terminal vintage before its closure. The profile features notes of lemon zest, honey and a subtle maritime saltiness balanced by a light, clean smoke. On the palate, the whisky maintains a surprising weight for its 40% ABV strength, offering secondary layers of vanilla and dried grass. It serves as an accessible historical artefact for the expert consumer, providing a sensory link to the end of an era for one of the most iconic lost distilleries in the Scotch industry.

An Elusive Highlander

Originally known as Clynelish, Brora was established in the early 1800s by the Duke of Sutherland. The distillery was popular with blenders to the point where a second site was required to meet demand (still in operational as Clynelish). The original distillery was closed in the late 1960s and reopened in the 1970s, producing a range of malts - from heavily peated to very lightly peated.

Having long been one of the most popular closed distilleries for collectors and drinkers, Brora is now being refurbished and reopened by the current owners Diageo. The first bottlings are expected in the mid to late 2020s - the whisky world waits with baited breath!
