The 1986 Château Branaire-Ducru is a Fourth Growth Bordeaux from the Saint-Julien appellation, known for its structured and long-lived wines. The growing season’s challenges contributed to a classic style, producing a wine with a dark garnet hue. Aromas include notes of earth, cedar and subtle spice, complemented by redcurrants. The palate presents a firm structure, with flavours of graphite and currant. This magnum format permits a slower ageing process, often resulting in a more integrated profile.
88 Robert Parker
Tannins are likely to always dominate this vintage for Branaire. Dark garnet with an attractive bouquet of earth, minerals, cedar, spice, and currants, this wine remains firm and structured. Cedar, graphite, red currants, and mineral flavors are present in its medium-bodied presentation on the palate. Drink it over the next 6-8 years. Last tasted, 3/02. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Elegant, Complex and Balance

Founded in 1680 by Jean-Baptiste Braneyre, 4ème Cru Classé estate Château Branaire Ducru currently spans 60ha and is situated on the opposite side of the road from Château Beychevelle in the south of the St-Julien appellation. Renowned for producing pure and classic St-Julien, which is elegant, supple and well-balanced.

The estate is planted with predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, together with smaller amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and is used to produce both the historic first wine in addition to a second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru. These are reds that are perfect for aging, opening up with time in bottle and offering superb freshness and purity.
