Branaire-Ducru 2012 is a Left Bank Bordeaux blend from the Saint-Julien appellation. This wine comprises 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, showcasing the estate`s stylistic characteristics. The nose presents aromas of dark fruits, including blackcurrant and plum, accompanied by subtle herbal notes and hints of cedar. The palate is marked by firm tannins, providing structure alongside a noticeable acidity.

The 2012 Branaire-Ducru has a rather subdued bouquet compared to its peers and lacks the same joire de vivre as the 2012 Clos du Marquis. The palate is medium-bodied with a light grip on the entry, finely balanced with admirable purity. It suggests that the aromatics might be amidst a dumb phase because there is more brightness towards the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Elegant, Complex and Balance

Founded in 1680 by Jean-Baptiste Braneyre, 4ème Cru Classé estate Château Branaire Ducru currently spans 60ha and is situated on the opposite side of the road from Château Beychevelle in the south of the St-Julien appellation. Renowned for producing pure and classic St-Julien, which is elegant, supple and well-balanced.

The estate is planted with predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, together with smaller amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc and is used to produce both the historic first wine in addition to a second wine, Duluc de Branaire-Ducru. These are reds that are perfect for aging, opening up with time in bottle and offering superb freshness and purity.
