The 1996 Château Boyd-Cantenac is a notable Margaux, classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification system. This vintage faced challenges with fluctuating weather patterns, including a hot, dry flowering period followed by a cool and wet August. Such conditions ultimately benefitted the vineyards, particularly for Cabernet Sauvignon. The blend is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine presents a complex profile of blackberry, tobacco and subtle earthy tones.

Pretty concentrated, very ripe nose and very concentrated on the palate too. Rather rustic tannins and no shortage of acidity. Not especially refined but it does deliver fruit. And the finish is not too brutal. (JR)
