Bowmore 22 Year Old Old and Rare Hunter Laing 1987 is a rare Islay single malt matured for 22 years in a single hogshead. Distilled in 1987 and bottled at a natural cask strength of 54.3% this expression offers a harmonious balance of medicinal peat smoke and vibrant tropical fruits. Over two decades of maturation have softened the spirit`s rugged coastal edges, resulting in a rich and velvety texture and a sophisticated aromatic lift of sea salt and honeyed malt. It delivers a robust palate of iodine and citrus supported by a persistent mineral core and a lingering, ashy finish. This bottling is a precise and site-specific expression of Islay, showcasing the remarkable structural integrity of the 1987 vintage under independent stewardship.

Bowmore is one of the oldest distilleries on Islay and the first on the island to receive a license. Officially founded in 1779 by local merchant David Simpson, it's likely that illicit distilling had been taking place for some years on the same site. The distillery had a number of different owners over the years, passing to Stanley Morrison in the mid 60s before being purchased by Beam Suntory in 1994.
The distillery has bottled some of the world's most desirable single malts over the years including the widely acclaimed White, Black and Gold Bowmore editions. Across the range, the spirit is characterised by a rich smoky character with hints of tropical fruit and ocean spray.
