Domaine Georges Roumier`s Bourgogne Rouge 2022 showcases the typical characteristics of Burgundy Pinot Noir. This wine is crafted entirely from de-stemmed grapes, allowing for a pure expression of red fruit. The nose reveals notes of red cherries and subtle berry nuances. On the palate, expect a linear structure complemented by tart red fruit and a hint of spice. Established by Georges Roumier in the early 20th century, the estate remains a benchmark for Burgundy wines, currently managed by Christophe Roumier.
Vinous
The 2022 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, which is completely de-stemmed, has a fragrant bouquet with pure red cherries and crushed strawberry. The palate is clean and precise, with tart red fruit and a judicious touch of white pepper on the finish. Very fine.

Domaine Georges Roumier

A Icon of Fine Burgundy

One of Burgundy's most famous producers - founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the domaine was passed to his son Jean-Marie in 1957 and eventually on to his grandson Christophe in the early 1990s. Vines are either rented from family members or managed on a share-cropping basis and the cellar team operate a dynamic approach to winemaking, subtly altering their techniques depending on the vineyard and vintage. Some fruit is fully destemmed before fermentation while some is partially destemmed. A cool maceration takes place before fermentation, which takes place in wooden vats, and punch downs happen twice a day. Use of new oak is judicious - only around 20% for the village wines, 35% for the Premier Crus and 50% for the Grand Crus.

If Georges Roumier only produced Chambolle-Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Clos St Denis, the winery would still be considered one of the greatest in Burgundy, but their other-worldly Musigny Grand Cru elevates their status among the great wineries of France to legendary.
