Domaine Coche-Dury was founded in 1973 by Jean-François Coche. Now under the stewardship of son, Raphaël, the Coches farm nearly 9 hectares of vineyards across six communes. Though rather more famous for Chardonnay from more highly acclaimed crus, this is an excellent “entry-level” wine that gives the perfect snapshot into the quality and style of Coche-Dury. Sourced from various plots with vines that have significant age, this is a mid-weight, fresh and beautifully balanced wine, with delicious notes of orchard fruits, citrus, white flowers and the most subtle hint of struck match.

The 2017 Bourgogne Blanc, unlike the previous vintage, comes entirely from the domaine in Meursault, the 2016 having been supplemented with fruit from the Mâconnais in order to maintain a two-year barrel rotation. It has a well-defined bouquet with scents of apple blossom and hints of coconut and orange blossom. The palate is expressive on the entry, which features a touch of lemongrass, and very well balanced, leading to a precise, saline, approachable finish. Neal Martin1st January 2020
