Château Bourgneuf is a Libournais wine estate in Pomerol which has been owned by the Vayron family since 1821. The property consists of a single 9-hectare plot of land, made up of different soil types including a mix of clay and sand, pure clay and gravel. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, which were harvested by hand on a parcel-by-parcel basis. At 15% ABV, it is a rather muscular, full-bodied wine, with notes of ripe plums, tobacco, vanilla oak, dark chocolate and cedar.

The 2019 Bourgneuf has a lovely, winsome bouquet of beautifully defined raspberry and black currant aromas plus hints of undergrowth, black truffle and sage, all very detailed. The medium-bodied palate is quite structured and grippy yet has the acidity to maintain tension from start to finish, and there’s plenty of sapid red fruit here. A superb Pomerol that should give 20+ years of drinking pleasure. Neal Martin1st February 2022
